Gaza Trade Union Opens Latin America Office in the city of Che Guevara
The office aims to promote solidarity networks between workers from Gaza and Latin America. Argentine workers celebrated the opening of a Latin American Office of the General Federation of Trade Unions of Palestine–Gaza in the city of Rosario, Argentina, the city of birth of Che Guevara. Local workers expressed their solidarity with the issues Palestinian workers in Gaza are facing.

The Palestine workers movement is going through some of its worst times because hundreds of thousands of people are unemployed in Gaza due to the destruction caused by the 51-day indiscriminate attack by Israeli forces in 2014.

The new office (www.ithadpal-latin.org) will serve as a solidarity network between Palestine and Argentina, where HispanTV report that local workers have expressed their concerns due to the new government to be headed by right-wing president-elect Mauricio Macri.

According to the PGFTU, 200,000 Gazans are unemployed and poverty has increased to 60 percent.

The office aims to “inform and criticize the humanitarian situation and the human rights violations committed against Palestinian workers in the Gaza strip, illegally blocked by the Israeli army since 2007,” according to the invitation to the inauguration event.

PGFTU-Gaza’s representative in Argentina, Abu Faisal Sergio Tapia, will be in charge of the Rosario office. The initiative received the formal support of organizations of Latin America.

Argentina has a long history of Arab migration, which began in the late 19th century. Most of the Arab migrants are Syrian, Lebanese, Egyptian, Morrocan and Palestinian with a combined population of 3.5 million.
