With ISIS’ takeover of Ramadi and Palmyra, many sat up and asked “where were the American bombers while this was happening?” Iraqis have now taken note that US Defense Secretary Ash Carter and others have refused to take any blame for these losses, and are re-calculating their dependence on Washington’s promises.
What’s missing from their calculations though is that the US has always wanted a “Sunni buffer” between Syria and Iraq – essentially to cut the geographic line from Iran to Palestine. And the newly declassified 2012 DIA report suggests that the US will gladly deal with whomever offers this ‘buffer,’ including ISIS.
It is high time that regional states under threat from Takfiri extremists take control of this battle against ISIS and others like it. My suggestion? Kick out the Americans (and their dubious, militant-supporting coalition allies)  and take on serious partners committed to this fight:
