A report arrived to the Pressenza desk on a Blood Group Service Campaign in Rasulbugh Neighborhood, Azimpur, Dhaka, Bangladesh on November 4, 2014.

The report told that after restarting a series of social campaigns after a period of intermission, the day went very well as not only was the local community offered the useful service of determination and logging of their blood types, but a lot of the humanist volunteers were brought into the days activities, always good for forging solidarity and renewing friendships.

The campaign was part of an endeavour to build a database of volunteer blood doners so people in distress and who need blood for transfusion have some place to go as government institutions are not able to assist all cases and usually money comes into play as a demand for blood.

Humanist Nasrul Jashim said, “It was really nice because 22 volunteers came to help the activities. These started from 10am and went on till 4:30 pm. Totally, 175 persons came to get to know their blood group type. We asked help from our neighborhood people to support this campaign, and happy to say 35 persons supported this activity financially.”

The group also bought rice, vegetables and meat to cook adjacent to the campaign area, and at lunch time 20 volunteers took food together. “Particularly welcome was having such an enjoyable programme where new and old volunteers came together in support,” he ended.
