Europe: Unemployment Affects 11 Percent of Active Population

The economy in the euro zone, formed by the 17 countries linked to the euro, registered a unemployment level of 11 percent of the active population according tolocal sources today.
The Statistics office Eurostat, said that the level is similar to the one reported last month, although it represents 1.1 percent more than the one in the same period of 2011.

The office said that in the analyzed period, 17.4 million people without a job were counted. At the level of the European Union the amount reached 24.6 million people.

Spain the first place with an unemployment rate of 24.3 percent, for an increase of two tenths compared to the one in March, and significant unemployment data were registered in Greece (21.7 percent) and Portugal (15.2 percent).

The unemployment index for men was of 11.9 percent in the Eurozone, while the one for women was of 11.2 percent.

The evolution of the working market is affected by the situation in the Eurozone, which economy is in recession with not too much encouraging predictions.
